Growing up in Lancaster County made me a huge fan of the farmer’s market—a girl could get used to summer roadside stands that provide all-you-can-eat farm fresh goodies for mere pennies. Now that I live in Philly, I’m lucky enough to be only blocks away from the glorious 9th Street Italian Market.
I love that the Italian Market gives me a local spot to pick up all the fresh produce I need without breaking the bank. I visited this Saturday with a few menu ideas in mind, and spent only $7.50 on a ton of assorted summer goods (pictured below).
I like to start with a few must-buy items in mind, and walk up and down the rows of vendors to gauge freshness, price and availability. This gives me a chance to look for any special sales too—one weekend I walked away with two huge containers of strawberries for just $1. Buying berries would normally be a splurge buy for me at grocery store, but not here!
