Farmers Market Contest Under Way – Vote for Phoenixville’s Own

Do you love your farmer’s market? I mean, really love it? Then show how much you care in a big way by casting a vote. The American Farmland Trust began their 4th Annual America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest on June 22. The organization that goes above and beyond to educate the public about the value and importance of preserving farmland is eager to share with America which market is top notch and most loved!

Although they are the experts in the farmers market department, its up to YOU to let them know just how great Phoenixville’s Farmers Market really is. Time to show some love for the market that delivers nothing but the best on a weekly basis. You certainly have your favorite stands, friendly farmers who know what you like and vendors that expect your arrival like clockwork. Mompops, ICED by Betsy, Birchrun and the whole gang are there when you need them, so why not do the same in return? Winning would mean a $1000 Farmers Market Inspiration Award, sponsored by the Farmers Market Coalition. It will be presented to a farmer showing the greatest dedication to his/her market.

The 2012 America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest has been expanded to include all 7,175 markets that are listed in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Farmers Market Directory, including Phoenixville! The summer long competition aims to see which farmers markets can generate the most votes from their customers. The goal of the contest is to promote the role that farmers markets’ play in keeping family farmers on the land.

You can vote for as many participating farmers markets as you choose, but can only vote for each market once. Voting runs through midnight on Monday September 3, when one small, one medium, one mid-size, and one large market will win the title of “America’s Favorite Farmers Market” for 2012.  The winning markets will be featured in the media and will be honored at local celebrations organized by American Farmland Trust.
