It’s clear by now that Town Dish is very excited about the upcoming Kennett Brewfest. We were pleased to remind everyone to save the date and even happier to report on the evergrowing beer list for the main event, which now includes Dogfish Head! So it’s an extra special pleasure of ours to share details of this extra special supplementary event, Meet the Makers.
On Friday, September 28th from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m., Historic Kennett Square (Brewfest organizers) will present a select tasting event featuring the region’s finest in fermented fare. Meet the Makers will be held in conjunction with the Kennett Square Farmers Market’s 4th annual Fermentation Festival, and is completely new for 2012!
You’ll be able to meet some of the most unique makers in the brick alleyway along Sycamore Alley and State Street, directly across from the Farmers Market. Just a $10 ticket will grant you access to tastings of small batch craft brews by Forest & Main, Round Guys, and Argilla. Flickerwood Wine Cellars will be on site to present their Fall wines and Frecon Farm is bringing fruit wine and hard ciders. The prohibition-era inspired artisan spirits from Philadelphia’s Art in the Age and Quaker City Mercantile’s Spodee Wine will also be featured. It’s quite a pleasant mix of makers!
Guests will be able to taste all the delicious adult beverage offerings alongside choice local cheeses and learn from the masters behind it all as they share their craft and the role that fermentation plays in their work. The event will feature live music in the alleyway and pizza will be sold on the terrace by neighboring Italian restaurant, La Verona.
Make a day of it by visiting The Fermentation Festival at the Kennett Square Farmers Market before hand. It begins at 2 p.m., with over 30 vendors showcasing their own fermented delights. You will learn about cured meats, pickling, saurkraut making and other vegetable fermentation processes with fascinating demonstrations. Let the live music from the Durkan Brothers carry your dancing feet across the street come 4:30 to “Meet the Maker,” and taste the night away! And, as you all know, the best end to this journey through the world of fermentation is the next day at the annual Kennett Square Brewfest.
