Home Bakers, Pastry Chefs and Vendors Bringing Their A-Game for Tonight’s Cupcake Clash

Bite. Chew. Swallow. Judge Blindly. Repeat.

That is the process which will ensue for many attendees at tonight’s Chester County Cupcake Clash, the first ever blind cupcake competition in the area.

Does “blind” mean the sweet treats are vision impaired? No, of course not. It means a limited amount of event guests have pre-registered as voters and they will chomp their way through various samples without knowing which contestants created the offerings.

This very special event is unfolding at Radley Run Country Club and history will be in the making once the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Voters are welcome to taste away from 7 to 8:30 and the winner will be announced at 9 p.m. Some attendees pre-registered as non-voters but they will still be treated to delicious offerings, including hors d’oeuvres from Radley Run and sweets from Cupcakes Gourmet.

Proceeds will benefit the Bringing Hope Home (formerly known as Great Guys Group), an organization dedicated to providing emotional and financial assistance to local families who are battling cancer. Find out more about their Hope for 100 campaign HERE and their rapidly approaching STOMP Cancer 5K.

While voters will be unable to view a “created by” label for each offering, they will know that all cupcakes must be made from scratch, including the icing. The sweet morsels will be judged on presentation, moistness, originality and texture. Contestants were asked to enter in three different categories; chocolate, vanilla, and a special theme cupcake. Since Bringing Hope Home was founded by a loving couple who met at West Chester University, the special theme will be “sweethearts,” in honor of the benefactor.

Meeting the requirements is important. Where the cupcakes come from won’t be necessarily. In fact, one other element that makes the blind Cupcake Clash so unique, is the fact that contestants don’t have to be professionals. Restaurant pastry chefs and popular food vendors will certainly be involved but a few talented home bakers plan to make an appearance as well, and they are sure to put up a darn good fight.

PA Eats can’t wait to nosh our way through the unique cupcakes, but not until catching your mug on the red carpet. Be sure to strike a pose before entering the Cupcake Clash and look for it afterward on WestChesterDish.com.

Our stomachs are growling with one look at the participants below.
