Kennett Square bakery, Liz Marden’s Gourmet Cakes & Desserts, had a sweet appearance in People Magazine after crafting the wedding cake for Vice President Joe Biden’s daughter. Ashley Biden married Howard Krein with a celebration in the Biden’s backyard in Delaware. For those of you who have seen or tasted Liz Marden’s cakes, you know the Biden’s chose the best in the Brandywine Valley.
The cake was elegant and simple, but very impressive with layered white chocolate mousse and Swiss raspberry jam between vanilla and chocolate cake layers, all covered in vanilla buttercream. Liz, who knew Jill from her baking and pastry programs at Delaware Tech Community College, kept the cake exactly to the bride’s standards. She had whimsical bird toppers and a cottage-feel for the cozy wedding.
Since Ashley married Philadelphia surgeon, Howard Krein, they gave all their guests a special taste of his brotherly love by sharing a late-night snack of Philly-style soft pretzels with homemade dipping mustards. With a Liz Marden cake and authentic Philly pretzels in one place, it sounds like guest’s taste buds received the Philly flavor they deserved!
