Old Eagle Tavern Celebrates Philly Beer Week with Duck Rabbit, Yards Brewing Co. and a Crab Fest

Old Eagle Tavern will be partying during Philly Beer Week with a lineup of fantastic events from May 30 through June 9! The 10 events celebrate a variety of craft breweries and feature $1 off select drafts every night.

Philly Beer Week kicks off Thursday, May 30, from 7 to 10 p.m. with a special installment of Old Eagle Tavern’s recurring “Beer & A Movie” series. Duck-Rabbit Beer & A Movie Night features the Farmville, NC, microbrewery, aka the dark beer specialists. Guests will get to meet the brewers, enjoy four Duck-Rabbit drafts for $1 off and watch old Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoons throughout the bar. The event features Wee Heavy Scotch Style Ale, Rabid Duck Russian Imperial Stout, Milk Stout and Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale. The kitchen special for the evening will include a house-made Duck-Rabbit Sausage with house-made spicy relish and beer mustard.

On Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Old Eagle Tavern will host a Yards Brewing Bike Race Party in honor of the new Manayunk bike race with a new loop and a new finish line along the iconic Manayunk wall. The event features four beers plus a special pin, including Brotherly Suds Vol. 4, Extra Special Ale (ESA) IPA, a brand new light saison and a special pin of Brawler Dry Hopped. The Yards crew will be on hand to cheer on the bikers as they ride the Manayunk wall while guests enjoy the action of the big race with local beer.

One of the most unique events of Philly Beer Week is Old Eagle Tavern’s Maryland Crab & Beer Fest on Saturday, June 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. Old Eagle Tavern Owner and beer expert Erin Wallace brings the best of her home state of Maryland. There will be a selection of the best beers from Maryland breweries along with a special menu from Chef Morgan Malachi featuring Maryland crabs. Attendees can expect lots of Old Bay, steamed crabs, crab cakes and Maryland crab soup. Look for a draft list that includes Heavy Seas Riptide, Stillwater Classique and Stateside Saison and Brewer’s Art Le Canard, Evolution Prelude Gold, Summer Session and Citra IPA. Also on tap will be Flying Dog Big Black Wit (a draft-only variety of the Brewhouse Rarities brewed with blood-orange zest and grapefruit zest). Old Eagle Tavern will also feature bottles of Stillwater Cellar Door (a complex summer offering), cans of Brewer’s Art Resurrection (an Abbey-style dubbel) and Brewer’s Art Ozzy (a Belgian strong pale ale).

Philly Beer Week at Old Eagle Tavern concludes with a Smuttynose Beer Brunch on Sunday, June 9.  Join Old Eagle Tavern for the last Philly Beer Week event, a beer brunch featuring the beers of Smuttynose Brewing. Meet the Brewers and enjoy brunch specials from Chef Morgan Malachi’s kitchen. Draft specials include Summer Weizen and Finestkind IPA.

Green Flash Brewing Co. Night,Friday, May 31, 6–9 p.m.

Old Eagle Tavern will be tapping some great craft beer selections from Green Flash Brewery of California. Draft list TBA but expect hoppy beers from the west coast.

Shawnee Craft Ales Night, Saturday, June 1, 7–10 p.m.

Old Eagle will offer a selection of Shawnee Craft Ales with $1 off drafts from the Delaware River brewery. They’ll also be pouring a special firkin made with hops grown at the brewery and will offer Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter on Nitro and Sub Rosa.

Weyerbacher Night, Tuesday, June 4, 7–10 p.m.

Meet the people behind Weyerbacher Brewing Co. and enjoy $1 off Weyerbacher beers. Expect cheese pairings from DiBruno Bros. Cheese plates will be available with a paired Weyerbacher flight for a special discounted price or a la carte. Draft list features Manneken-Penn Belgo-American hybrid—the official Philly Beer Week collaboration with Belgium’s Brassiere de la Senne, Last Chance IPA, Verboten and Heresy.

Voodoo Brewing Night, Wednesday, June 5, 7–10 p.m.

Voodoo Brewing Night includes a chance to meet Owner & Brewer Pat Webster and Matt Allyn. Delicious craft beers will be paired with four mini cupcakes. The voodoo flights will be sold with a plate of mini cupcakes or a la carte.

Lancaster & Troegs Night, Thursday, June 6, 7–10 p.m.

It’s a crazy night at the Old Eagle with both Troegs’ Brewing Co. and Lancaster Brewing Co. Stop out and meet the brewers while sampling delicious beers. Guests can look for Beer Floats featuring Lancaster Chocolate Milk Stout and the Holiday Float with Troegs’ Mad Elf. Draft list includes Troegs Scratch Series Black Rye IPA, the collaboration with Devil’s Backbone & Church Brew Works, Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat and Troegs Mad Elf, a Lancaster firkin of Black Boar—a new Black IPA, a Nitro keg of Lancaster Double Chocolate Milk Stout and Lancaster Fest lager.

Round Guys Brewing Night, Friday, June 7, 7–10 p.m.

Stop in & meet the brewers from Round Guys Brewing Co. Old Eagle Tavern will pour a selection of well-rounded drafts from Lansdale, Pa., at $1 off for the night. Draft list will include the never before poured Crooked Billet IPA #1, a session IPA, Crooked Billet #3 Imperial IPA, Berliner and Dog Days of Summer Ale.
