Philly Farm & Food Fest: Preparing for a Second Year of Success

The PASA and Fair Food Philly are teaming up once again to present the area’s premier local farm and food expo. The Philly Farm & Food Fest will take place at the Philadelphia Convention Center on Sunday, April 14, from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The event  brings together thousands of enthusiastic foodies and over a hundred vendors offering up farm fresh products.

The organizers have built upon last year’s highly successful inaugural creation of this mecca for locavores with some interactive and informative programming add-ons. Notable new additions include a local libations lounge, complete with a guided tasting of local hard cider, beer, whiskey and cocktails (this 21 and over tasting event requires a special timed ticket in addition to the regular admission ticket); cooking demonstrations with some of Philadelphia’s most exciting chefs like farm-to-table pioneer Joshua Lawler from The Farm and The Fisherman; a book signing with founder and former owner of the White Dog Café Judy Wicks, as well as a much expanded selection of workshops and kids activities.

When asked about this year’s Philly Farm & Food Fest (known as PF3 by the organizers and participants), Marilyn Anthony, PASA’s Eastern Region Director exclaims, “What amazes me about Philly Farm & Food Fest is the spectacular quality and variety of foods. This year we are featuring new award winning products like the raisin bread from Gemelli Bakery and locally made Dad’s Hat Rye Whiskey. There’s much more humanely raised meats available including Philly CowShare, High View lamb and pork, Wyebrook Farm grass fed beef, and Country Time pork who sell their lovingly raised pigs to some of the finest restaurants in Philadelphia. We’re especially pleased that so many vendors from last year’s show will be back. We want the show to forge new connections between eaters and farmer/producers, and what we heard from exhibitors last year is how exciting it was to meet so many people curious about or committed to locally grown foods.”

She adds “as a native Philadelphian I’m used to Philly not getting its due, but anyone coming to Philly Farm & Food Fest is certain to be blown away by what our farmers and food artisans are creating. PF3 is an eater’s paradise, and one day devoted to finding new sources to fulfill all your food passions. Chocolate, gluten free baked goods, ice cream, hand crafted hard cider, pastured meats, amazing cheeses, pasta, plants, and the talented people behind all these products and much more are what you’ll find at PF3.”
