But, if comes in no surprise that baker Maryellen Bowers’ rendition of the seasonal old-fashioned treat surpasses your average apple-stuffed dessert. While grandma may be rolling over in her grave, I’d easily pack up my family’s PA Dutch recipe for a chance to score Bowers’ secrets.
But, trust me–you’ll have to test that out for yourself. Start by diving into her perfectly-flaky exterior drizzled with swirls of house-made caramel. Soon, within a few small forkfuls, you’ll barrel into the lightly-sweetened, deliciously-doughy interior and spot the incredible chunks of the season’s best fruit.
