Our Recommendation: Avec Les Bons Voeux del Brasserie Dupont

Where: Station Taproom, 207 West Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA

I wanted to check in with the Station Taproom and see what owner Sean McGettigan has on tap these days. When I asked what he recommended, his response was, “I’m a huge fan of the DuPont Ave. Les Bond Vouex. It is a strong Belgian Ale and has become one of my favorite seasonals.” That was enough for me so I gave it a try.

At 9.5% ABV, this is a complex and rich saison. With the high ABV and the price of $9 a glass, it’s a beer in which you want to savor and remember. This ale pours gold and crisp without much of a head. The saison has a sweet taste to it, with fruity characteristics, almost a scent of raisins and lingering taste.

The DuPont Brewery first started brewing this saison in 1970 as Christmas gifts for their best clients. The name, “Avec les bons Voeux de la brasserie Dupont” literally means, “With the best wishes of the Brewery DuPont.”

The beer grew in popularity and has become their annual Christmas ale. If you buy it in a bottle, it will continue to age so you can hold a bottle for next Christmas.

Two other notes that Sean shared during my visit: Station Taproom has a few bottles of Victory’s Dark Intrigue for sale if you haven’t obtained a bottle yet. Also, be sure to check out their New Year’s Eve Beer Dinner for $100 person. The menu looks excellent.
