PA Eats team was delighted to attend the 3rd Annual ACF “Philly Cooks” event at the Desmond Hotel & Conference Center, on April 12, 2012. Proceeds from the event benefited Delaware Valley Chefs Association‘s Charities and Student Scholarships, and we were excited to taste a wide range of culinary treats from area chefs and businesses.
It was a lovely evening, filled with great food, live music from Kevin Pierce, and the Young & Whitty “Ben Franklin”–who was donned in time-appropriate garb walking around and interacting with guests and chefs alike.
One of the true highlights for us was prepared by Joseph Moore, the territory sales manager for Jones Dairy Farm, who served their slow roasted bacon taco using Jones Dairy Farm Hickory Smoked Slab Bacon. It was pure heaven, and one of our favorite tastes of the evening. The sips from Black Walnut Winery (of Sadsburyville and Phoenixville) and Boxcar Brewing Company (of West Chester) were also excellent additions to the event.
The Desmond Hotel, with Chef Christopher Calhoun, and the Downington Country Club, with Chef Scott Campbell, both served rave-worthy dishes, allowing guests to experience their true culinary skills. Chef Chris concocted an incredible Cavatelli pasta accented with roasted eggplant-garlic cream sauce and zucchini. Chef Scott took on the duo of smoked salmon and beef tenderloin for his classically-styled (and addictive) bruschettas (seen to left).
Other exhibitors included: Esposito Porchetta, Joseph Poon – Chef Kitchen, Kildare’s of West Chester, Blair Mill Inn of Horsham, and Chef Laura Kay Healthy Lifestyle Services.
