Schooled! West Chester Story Slam is Tuesday!

Do you have a story on being Schooled?

That’s the theme of the next West Chester Story Slam on Tuesday, September 13th! The theme includes stories about school – life lessons learned in kindergarten, grade school, high school, or college. Also fitting the theme, the urban dictionary definition of the word schooled can be used in this slam:

1) To teach a lesson to.

2) When an individual gets taught a lesson in a harsh, demeaning manner.

3) Being taught the proper way to perform an action, via extreme ownage and embarrassment.

What is a Slam? Up to ten people will take the stage and tell their story in front of a rousing live audience.

Anyone, even you, can get up and tell a story. Official Rules for the West Chester Story Slam are as follows:

  • Stories should fit into the theme of the night!
  • Stories should be true as you remember it!
  • Stories should be under five minutes in length!
  • No Notes, No Props, No Music!

Three judges are selected from the audience. Each storyteller is given a score on a scale of 1-10 for two different criteria: content and presentation. The storyteller with the highest score wins, and is given a spot in November’s Grand Slam!

The best advice we’ve heard is this: Know the first sentence of your story and know the last sentence of your story. If you know where you are starting and have your destination in sight, you’ll do just fine!

You do not have to tell a story to come out and have a great time! The September Story Slam is Tuesday, September 13th at 8PM at Ryan’s Pub. Learn more about the slam, and watch videos of previous winners at www.wcstoryslam.com.
