Manayunk Home to Successful Gluten-Free Bakery—Meet Sweet Note Bagels

Sweet Note BakeryThe prevalence of celiac disease and gluten sensitivities are on the rise in the United States. Entrepreneur Michelle MacDonald discovered this first-hand when both her grandfather and her sister were diagnosed with celiac disease. Michelle’s grandfather really missed a good bagel and with that, a sweet idea was born—Sweet Note Bagels.

Sweet Note Bagels made the move to Manayunk last year after they outgrew their previous baking space. Currently, they are producing their gluten-free bagels in the old LeBus headquarters. Michelle and two other bakers, Brittany Nettles and Alison Vandermay, are selling 5,000 bagels a week, serving 70 restaurants and shops in five states. You can get a taste of Sweet Note’s bagels, which are also dairy-free, locally at Winnie’s LeBus on Main Street.

Find a listing of all stores and markets where their bagels are sold in Pennsylvania here. Additionally, you can order their bagels online for home delivery (minimum order is four packs of 6 bagels).
