DishTrip Treks via Amtrak to New York City, Covering a James Beard House Feast

James Beard isn’t a name that gets tossed around lightly in the foodie world. As a culinary icon, it’s an honor for any chef to be recognized by the foundation built upon this American chef and food writer’s legacy. Tonight at the James Beard House in New York City, that chef is definitely not just any chef to the residents of Pennsylvania’s Chester County and the surrounding area. He’s Chef Patrick Feury of Nectar and at 7 p.m. on February 8 he’s bringing his A-game for a sold out show. Did we mention Dish Trip will be there?

Our food loving crew wouldn’t be able to make this delicious trip of a lifetime without the help of Amtrak. That’s right, although we live by Southwest Airlines when flying, if we’re hitting the rails, Amtrak is where it’s at. This is just the first of many adventures and we’re excited to embark on a new relationship with the nationwide regional rails, all the while sharing our experience with you. In fact, we encourage you to tag along virtually for this one by following Dish Trip on Facebook & Twitter (@dishtrip). We’ll be hopping the Keystone Route from Philadelphia to New York so keep an eye out for #JamesBeard and #Amtrak to soak up all the delicious details.

Also, as many of you may already know, we rarely set out on foodie adventures without bringing along our own flavor from home. That flavor typically comes in a glass bottle, holds a fermented substance and boasts a big “V” on it’s neck. You guessed it—Victory Beer! Only this time, the Downingtown-based brewery is really representing with VBC’s Bill Covaleski attending the James Beard Dinner as the evening’s guest sommelier & brewer. He’ll be presenting J. Maki wine and Victory beer pairings which were carefully selected to allow Chef Feury’s farm-focused cuisine to shine.

Guests will experience a true tasting of Chester County in Chef Feury’s meal without leaving the Big Apple as reputable goods like Birchrun Hills and Yellow Springs Farm cheeses, Doe Run Farm’s country goat sausages, and Pineland Farms’ beef tenderloin all made the high quality, sustainable ingredient cut. And because Dish Trip never gets enough of Victory Beer, we’ll be heading to Blind Tiger Ale House in New York City on Saturday afternoon for Bill and Dave’s Cheesy Adventure, which will feature Victory’s always sensational sips paired with the finest Pennsylvania cheeses, plus beer and cheese from Vermont.

If you think that sounds like a jam packed trip, that’s because it is and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus, since starting and ending with a relaxing Amtrak ride, we’ll have time to collect our thoughts—a.k.a. attempt to contain our excitement—so everything goes as planned!

Stay tuned to DishTrip.com for details when we return!
