GAME ON! Two great seats to watch the game.

At Winner’s Circle Sports Grille

As of last year, I heard that Winner’s Circle got a bit of a facelift with more than 30 brand new wall-to-wall big screen plasma TVs, a Sports Hall of Fame and an overhauled game room for little ones and adult kids. So, I decided to check it out for a recent Tuesday night Phillies game. When I walked in, I found it impossible to find a spot to NOT see the game. With TVs around at every turn (even out on the patio) there was not a bad seat in the place. I settled in at the bar, ordered a beer and grabbed a menu.

What to get, what to get? Dare I take part in the Monster Burger Challenge, where I have to clear three 1/2-pound Angus burger patties with 2 toppings, served with a pound of french fries? I’d have to clear my plate in 20 minutes or less to get a free t-shirt and be forever enshrined in the Monster Burger Hall of Fame. I wanted to enjoy my meal so I continued looking at the menu and then was told some very exciting news.

Not only did I have the choice of nachos, wings, burgers and the other usual suspects, I had access to the entire menu from the restaurant next door (that shares the same kitchen), Riverstone. Tapas at a sports bar? That’s right. I decided to go with my favorite crab rangoons, a duck, apple butter, granny smith and blue cheese flat bread with arugula and I threw in an order of perogies just for good measure.

What does that mean for you NON sports fans? That you can satisfy any palate if you bring ’em along with you to watch the game and wow them with options other then standard “sports bar food” (not that there is anything wrong with nachos and burgers.)

Winner’s Circle Sports Grille in Exton is also now home to the Chester County Sports Hall of Fame. I got a look at the case with memorabilia on display from Hall of Famers that call Chester County home, such as Coach Dick Vermeil, Mike Piazza, Rip Hamilton, Cathy Rush and Jim Furyck.

As I was eating my perfect assortment of menu items I was informed that the local sports’ hub holds theme nights all week long, and they are as follows:

On your couch…

I had heard that Exton Beverage had the largest selection of sixtels in the county so I headed over to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know what I want for Christmas.

At first I thought that a sixtel was “Party Ball” they are both 1/6 of a keg but a sixtel is a non-disposable version, it comes in a returnable keg. I still wondered, why a sixtel? Here’s what I found out.

A 1/6 of a keg is equal to 21/3 cases of beer. Exton Beverage sells them in over 250 varieties and are 95% craft beers. What does this mean for you? It means that you can look like a beer ROCK STAR in your own home by having a variety of craft beers on tap for your family and friends to enjoy. When you use a sixtel you end up saving $15-20 each time you buy beer.

The catch? You need to have a home system first. Luckily, Exon Beverage sells them for anywhere between $750-$1500. Too much for you? Buy a kit to convert an old mini fridge for $200 and have the staff install it for you.

“I recommend everyone gets a kegarator because no matter what you drink you will save money. Even after the initial investment of the system you’ll see your savings within the year. Of course that depends on how much you drink,” said Manager John Genter.

Sixtel sales were up last year over others thanks to the economy inspiring people to be more frugal with their booze and still enjoy the great taste of craft beer.

If home is the place where you’d rather watch the game do yourself a favor and buy a few sixtels. People drive from Maryland and New Jersey to stock up on seasonal brews and you’re gonna want to too. Personally, if I had a three tap system and a megatouch (the electronic game box at the bars) I may never leave my house.
