Reading Terminal Market’s Harvest Festival

By Laura Taylor

This just in from Reading Terminal Market:

Don’t Miss the 10th Annual Harvest Festival: Saturday, October 23, 2010, 10am-4pm, outside on Filbert Street.

Filbert Street will be transformed into an urban farm on Saturday, October 23rd, giving those who can’t get out of the city a chance to enjoy all that fall has to offer, thanks to the Market’s tenth annual Harvest Festival.  Closed to vehicle traffic, Filbert Street will be filled with bales of hay and corn stalks, providing festival-goers with a true “country” experience. Visitors and shoppers alike are invited to climb aboard an authentic farm tractor for a hay ride around the Market, guess the weight of a gigantic pumpkin, participate in festive craft-making, join in pie-eating contests, and, of course, partake of delicious seasonal foods.  Merchants will offer locally made, seasonal foods such as hot apple cider candy apples. There will also be donuts, nut brittles and fudge, sausage sandwiches, barbecue, and more!  Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by local bluegrass band, Special Delivery. Admission to the festival is free.
