For 70 years, Chester County Day has honored the county’s architecture, art, antiques and landscape. It’s the nation’s oldest house tour, and it’s scheduled Oct. 2 beginning at 10 a.m.
Members of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Chester County Hospital have organized 25 of the area’s breathtaking private properties to be open that day in both Chester Springs and West Chester.
Included in the excursion is a newly restored 1806 Federal home that was featured in the first Chester County Day, as well as an 1893 Queen Anne home, originally constructed as a church and a school. Many of the houses feature original art and elaborate gardens.
Along with your exploration, you will be able to make a lunchtime pit stop, allowing you to enjoy a perfect fall picnic at Marshall Square Park in West Chester, catered by Arianna’s Gourmet Cafe. While it’s suggested that you reserve a lunch prior to the event, additional lunches will be sold on site. Dixie Picnic is also on board for catering at another location, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Chester Springs, and they too request you pre-order your meals in advance.
A VIP tour ticket includes a preview cocktail reception catered by Vicker’s Tavern, a gourmet luncheon at the restored Barclay Friends catered by Jimmy Duffy Caterers, and a gift from Wendell August Forge.
All proceeds from Chester County Day will be benefit The Chester County Hospital. Tour tickets can be purchased in The Chester County Hospital Lobby and Cashier’s Office, at Penn Liberty Bank in Chester Springs, online, or by calling 610-431-5301. Grab tour tickets by Sept. 22 for $35 per person. Tickets on the day of the tour will be $40. VIP tickets are priced at $100 in advance.
