Our Recommendation: Omnipollo Fatamorgana Double IPA
Where: TJ’s Restaurant & Drinkery, 35 Paoli Plaza, Paoli, PA
Many local bars announce each newly tapped beer on Facebook or Twitter, providing a constant reminder of what’s being poured at the local watering hole. TJ’s Restaurant and Drinkery in Paoli is particularly good at updating their impressive beer list, which flows from 26 taps. When TJ’s recently tweeted “Omnipollo Fatamorgana has replaced Flying Dog Double Dog,” I thought I’d make a pit stop and see what this beer is all about.
Until that tweet, I hadn’t even heard of Omnipollo, but some quick research revealed it is a Swedish brewery founded in 2010, though they brewed their Fatamorgana at Pub Dog Brewing Company in Maryland.
Served in a tulip glass because of the high alcohol count (8% ABV), this ale had a small head and a hazy orange glow about it. The head quickly fizzled as I took my first taste, which flourished with citrus notes reminiscent of grapefruit. The flavor trailed off with a dry finish of pine. Fatamorgana is a pleasant beer which tastes more like a saison than an double IPA.
TJ’s Restaurant and Drinkery has an awesome tap list, which is why they’ve been listed as one of the top 25 places to have a pint by Beer Advocate. Their well-lit board behind the bar has the name of each beer neatly written, with the price, ABV, and origin of the brewery. The board also has a small drawing which denotes which type of glass your beer will be served in. This means all the surprises are left for the beer tasting, which is the way it should be. Cheers!
