They may have been gone for a few months, but Barbara Hughes Nelson, matriarch of the Nelson family, wants everyone to know that Nelson’s Ice Cream Store is back and better than ever! “Come in for a cone or a cup of the most delicious 16% butterfat ice cream,” Barbara invites the public. “Patrick and Amanda Nelson are at the helm and will be happy to meet and greet each and every one of their customers.”
Nelson’s closed for renovations back in January and recently opened back up the last weekend in May, just in time for the summer season. Patrick says that every surface of the store has been updated—they have expanded their square footage, added brand-new seating at a bar along the windowed storefront and more new seating throughout the shop. Also making their debut are two new freezers, allowing Nelson’s to offer you 40 flavors of ice cream each day. As a final touch, Patrick has brought his father’s old 1950s soda fountain to the store and is making delicious fountain sodas the old-fashioned way. I suggest the Piña Colada—it was delicious!
After speaking to Patrick and Amanda, I was able to head across the street to the factory where all the magic happens and snag a few pictures:
