Moms deserve more than just a day, but with busy schedules and distance between us, sometimes we have to make that one day super special. I am 28 years old and my mom is still there for me every day, supporting me, answering those weird questions that only moms know. That is why on Mother’s Day I try to impress her with my amazing culinary skills and show her that all her hard work paid off!
Atmosphere: Moms are all about family. Make sure your brunch allows for socialization and mingling so that mom can be easily surrounded by those she loves! So instead of doing something seated, maybe do a buffet or stations so people are up and moving around. If the weather is nice I like to open up the patio, set up the drinks outside and have seating out there to soak up the lovely sun!
Flowers: What mom doesn’t love flowers? Utilize the flowers that are in season—tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, peonies. If you’re a gardener go out and clip some buds and put them in a selection of several smaller containers. Go the extra step and pull out those vases that have been handed down to you from your mom; it’ll mean all the more to her.
Menu: For brunch, especially a spring brunch, I like to keep things light, with more finger foods than heavy entrees. The white bean crostini from Skinny Taste is not only the perfect appetizer but also a great vegetarian option. The cucumber feta rolls are my go-to appetizer for making me look like more of a fancy chef than I actually am. From Good Life Eats, this recipe is super simple and tastes delish! Then if you’re looking for something a little more substantial a light lemony pasta dish is perfect and will please any guest. This one from Martha Stewart doesn’t include meat, but throw in some salmon, shrimp, or chicken … sounds perfect! Then to cap off your menu add some flavor to your chicken salad with this recipe from Ms. Paula Deen.
For dessert bring in those berries that are FINALLY in season and don’t cost an arm and a leg with this awesome Berry Shortcake from Pioneer Woman.
The most important thing is have a great time! Memories are the greatest gift, so make sure the good times are aplenty and I guarantee your Mother’s Day soiree will mean the world!
