Collegeville Fire Company Hosts Hero Run 5K, Unfolding Oct. 21

Fall is perfect running weather, there’s no denying that. If you’re an avid runner or just get out for an occasional jog, the Collegeville Fire Company is asking you to get those feet a-treading for a celebration of Heroes.They will be hosting a Hero Run 5k on October 21st. Runners will take their mark, get set and GO at 10:30 a.m., starting at the Collegeville Station Parking Lot (corner of 3rd Ave & Chestnut St).

Family, friends, and a festival will be waiting once runners cross the finish line. The festival will take place in the Appalachian Brew Pub parking lot at 3rd and Chestnut in Collegeville and until 2 p.m. The Fire Company plans to have several hero vehicles present for folks to check out, including the Montgomery County Bomb Squad, the US Army National Guard, the Chester-Montgomery County SWAT Team and a US Air Force Fire truck.

The race benefits the Fire Company but portions of the proceeds are going to the Philadelphia Fire Department Memorial Fund for the firefighters killed back in April. Another portion is going to the support a fund for Marine LCPL. Timothy Donley. Tim is a marine from the Telford area who lost both of his legs and much use of his right arm after he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan in February. Tim will be on site the day of the race, serving as the honorary starter.

Registration and cost information can be found at www.collegevillefire.org. You may also register the day of the race, up until 10a.m. Keep in mind the first 200 to register receive a commemorative Hero Run 5k Patch. Also, prizes for top male/female overall finishers and top male/female finishers across age groups will be awarded. Plus, if you’re feeling super sore before or after the race, grab a sports massage. They will be free for runners!
