On Saturday, February 12, from 12 noon until 7 p.m., head brewer Tim Stumpf of Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (130 East Bridge Street, 610-983-9333) will host a special British Invasion event featuring eight of Iron Hill’s best English-style beers. Guests will enjoy select Iron Hill ales and lagers alongside a flavorful menu of Brit-inspired dishes by executive chef Jeremy Heckman on a Pay-As-You-Go basis until the beer runs out.
“Hearty English-style beers and snacks are a perfect way to keep warm during the cold winter months,” says Stumpf. “Our annual British Invasion is a fun celebration of these full-flavored pints and plates – and as always, we’ll have a great British Invasion soundtrack to accompany the food and drink.”
Beer offerings will include: ESB, or extra special bitter, an English-style bitter with amber color, pronounced caramel malt sweetness and a floral hop aroma; Nut Brown Ale, a medium-bodied English-style ale with a slightly roast-y, nutty malt flavor and well-balanced bitterness; Barleywine, a traditional English-style barleywine with intense, complex malt sweetness and a sherry-like quality; Chocolate Stout, Iron Hill’s famed Russian Imperial Stout brewed with 17 pounds of Belgian dark chocolate, 10 pounds of lactose and 40 Madagascar vanilla beans; Pig Iron Porter, a medium-bodied London-style dark brown ale with rich, roasted malt notes and a balanced bitterness; India Pale Ale, a classic rendition with malt-y sweetness and modest fruitiness giving way to bitterness and potent English hops; and Cask-Conditioned ESB, the same ESB mentioned above but served at cellar temperature with natural carbonation as a result of its’ cask conditioning. Pints will range in price from $4.75 to $6.75.
Tempting food offerings will include: Potato and Leek Soup; British Cheese Plate featuring Stilton, White Cheshire and Double Gloucester with water crackers and apple-pecan chutney; Grilled Asparagus Salad with baby arugula, roasted red and yellow peppers and sweet onions tossed in a roasted shallot cream dressing; Pan-Seared North Atlantic Salmon with warm fingerling potato salad, sautéed spinach and basil-Dijon mustard sauce; classic Bangers and Mash, pork sausage with mashed potatoes and a rich onion gravy; Fish and Chips; and Shepherd’s Pie, stuffed with lamb, peas, corn, carrots and onions beneath a layer of mashed potatoes. Food items range in price from $3.50 to $20.50.
