8-Year-Old Burger Reviewer Hits West Chester Food Scene

There’s a new restaurant critic in town, and his name is Burger Boy.

8-year-old Daniel Zimmer, with a little help from parents Conrad and Carol, has started reviewing local burger joints in an awesome new web series known as The Adventures of Burger Boy. Each segment features the Starkweather second grader and his family as they visit a classic burger joint, chat with the staff and taste test the burgers. Thanks to dad Conrad, who is an editor for Nancy Glass Productions, the short reviews are quick paced, funny and informative. So far, Burger Boy has visited four burger joints, and two reviews have been posted online. Here’s Burger Boy’s review of Billy Burger and Bakery on 5 Points Road in West Chester.

“Cheeseburgers are Daniel’s staple,” Carol explained. “Whenever we go out to dinner anywhere, he always gets burgers.” Conrad explained that they were inspired by the popular foodie shows like those on Food Network and Travel Channel. “He and I have been watching Burger Land,” Conrad said. “After watching these on TV, we got the Burger GPS app. Billy Burger is on the app, and Charcoal Pit is on the app, too. We just wanted to start exploring the area.” That’s when they tried Buddy’s Burgers, Breasts and Fries on Gay Street in downtown West Chester.

Burger Boy and the Zimmer family have also visited two other classic burger joints, the Charcoal Pit on Route 202 and Charlie’s Burgers in Folsom, PA. “I always went to Charlie’s when I was younger,” Carol said. “And when we posted the first Burger Boy episode on Facebook, people were saying, ‘you have to go to Charlie’s!’” Conrad hopes to have the next two episodes up on Youtube soon.

“It’s been nice how people have opened up to him, allowing him to come behind the counter and check things out,” shared Carol. “I liked the way Bill (from Billy Burger) talked to Daniel. And when we were at Buddy’s, they asked him if he wanted flip the burger.”

But Carol joked that the popularity of Burger Boy might mean they have to create shows for their other two children. “This might turn into a whole family thing because Ian likes pizza, and we made a joke about making him Pizza Guy; then I was saying I want to be Cupcake Girl and Madelynn started fighting with me, saying ‘I want to be Cupcake Girl!’”

Conrad patted his stomach and laughed, before he declared, “I’ll just film them and sample it all.”
