West Chester Recreation’s Summer Fun Returns to the Borough Through August & September

July just flew by, which means we have to squeeze the most out of what remains of this summer. Fortunately, August brings a new round of fun from our friends at  West Chester Recreation. Apart from their usual Swingin’ Summer Thursdays and the Vintage Garage Sale, both which hit town this week, there are two new events to check out. Attend them all to be sure that you’ve squeezed all the fun juice out of this Summer!

Swingin’ Summer Thursday

First Thursday of the Month: Aug 2nd and Sept 6th – 6:30 to 9:30p.m.

Each first Thursday features food, music, clowns, artists, magicians, jugglers and lots of family fun! On August 2nd, Rob Diener & Anomaly and The Rob Swanson Project will perform between High and Darlington Streets. September 6th will feature the Dirk Quinn Band and Wave Radio between High and Matlack Streets.

A Vintage Garage Sale

Friday, August 3rd – 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Taking place in the Chestnut Street Parking Garage located at 14 E. Chestnut Street, this event coincides with First Fridays in West Chester. Shoppers can peruse the vendors for vintage finds throughout the early evening before walking the downtown shopping scene of First Friday and enjoying a delicious meal from one of West Chester’s premier restaurants.

Antique lovers can park and shop ‘til they drop with vintage finds from a variety of vendors selling vintage home goods and accessories, antiques, collectibles, up-cycled, re-purposed and architectural salvage, vintage jewelry, clothing and original art and photography made with vintage components or vintage inspiration. Food vendors will also be on site for those shoppers looking to grab a light bite before their main course in town.

Come root for your favorite home team with an easy all inclusive trip everyone can enjoy. $75 will get you transportation, tickets, the drivers tip, and a boxed lunch and drink. It’s a pretty great deal! Hopefully we can say the same about the Phillies that day. The itinerary is as follows:

“Touch a Truck” Day

Sunday, August 19th – Noon to 4:00 p.m.

An event for children of all ages to get a close up look at some of the vehicles they have come to appreciate.  Previous “Touch a Truck” events have hosted over 50 participants and over 2000 people have attended. This event, taking place at the Government Services Center (601 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19380), will provide children and their families with the opportunity to see different models of cars and trucks as well as a variety of other vehicles. There will be a $2.00 parking charge per vehicle.

Heads Up: Keep in mind with all this Summer fun coming to an end that when fall rolls into town West Chester Recreation will happily present their 33rd Annual Chester County Restaurant Festival with over 60 restaurants and food vendors on Sunday, September 16. Stay tuned for more details!
