West Chester Parks and Recreation Announces Newest Summer Event: Vintage Garage Sale

West Chester Parks and Recreation is thrilled to announce their newest summer event, a Vintage Garage Sale (that’s actually IN a parking garage), that will coincide with First Friday in Downtown West Chester May through August in the Chestnut Street Parking Garage located at 14 E. Chestnut Street.

“We wanted to host a new event that would bring a variety of unique items and shoppers to town while still supporting our local retailers, “ said West Chester Parks and Recreation Director Keith Kurowski. “This is a wonderful addition to First Friday in Downtown West Chester.  Attendees can shop, eat, and listen to live music all while enjoying a beautiful summer evening in West Chester.”

The Vintage Garage Sale Friday evening market will kick off at 4 pm and close at 9 pm, providing shoppers time to peruse the vendors for vintage finds throughout the early evening with time to also walk the downtown shopping scene of First Friday and enjoy a delicious meal from any of West Chester’s premier restaurants.

First Fridays are exciting evenings in West Chester thanks to the West Chester Business Improvement Business, Director Malcolm Johnstone says, “This is a new and exciting event. People are always looking for new events taking place during First Friday and this will add still another good reason for people to come to West Chester to experience First Friday.”

Borough Manager, Ernie McNeely, is excited to use the Chestnut Street Parking Garage, the borough’s newest parking garage, as a venue as well. “I think this is a great idea and location. We designed this garage with the intention of using it for events like this, and we hope that it brings even more people to the borough to enjoy all there is to offer, including the downtown storefronts, shops, the restaurants and nightlife,” said McNeely.

Park and shop ‘til you drop with vintage finds from a variety of vendors selling vintage home goods and accessories, antiques, collectibles, up-cycled, re-purposed and architectural salvage, vintage jewelry, clothing and original art and photography made with vintage components or vintage inspiration. Food vendors will also be on site for those shoppers looking to grab a light bite before their main course in town.

Vintage lovers can continue to shop at West Chester’s vintage shops in town including Malena’s Vintage Boutique (at her new location of 101 West Gay Street), which will be open until 9 pm. Ladies can explore this well edited collection of vintage apparel and accessories that will make your friends jealous and priced to be easy on the wallet. Other shops in town will be open until 9 pm to partake in First Friday activities.

Vendor Colleen Allison of freshvintage is looking forward to selling her vintage home goods in West Chester. Colleen specializes in vintage furniture and home accessories with an eye towards industrial, farmhouse, and retro styles, which she sells at her new shop located at Highland Orchards. “My favorite finds are the ones that set your home apart from your neighbor’s, like an antique school map for your wall, wooden produce crates used as shelving, or an industrial tool cart that serves as a bar.”

West Chester Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for all vendors. Applications may be found at west-chester.com/recreation.php.  First-time vendors are welcome.

The Vintage Garage Sale will be an all-weather event and follow the scheduling of First Friday, where stores are open late and offer specials for everyone. The dates will be May 4th, June 1st, July 6th and August 3rd.
