Two friends and Scranton natives, Jeremy Saltry and Joey Dominick, are in the early production stages of a documentary, Tray—a Cut of Culture, exploring the Northeastern Pennsylvania region’s history of Old Forge style pizza.
“Pizza is almost a representation of our area, and it’s a great way to showcase a lot of themes. You have so many pizza shops that have fourth and fifth generation owners. They take so much pride in what they do, which was something that was instilled and passed down by their family to them,” Saltry told NEPA Scene, an independent arts and entertainment website in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Old Forge style of pizza is prepared in rectangular trays and served by the cut, not the slice. It was named after the coal mining town of Old Forge, which is nicknamed the Pizza Capital of the World. Funding for the project has been raised through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, surpassing the halfway mark of their $10,000 goal. The money will be used to cover the expenses of 30 days of shooting the film.
