Alex Valencia, co-founder and beverage director of New York’s La Contenta, has created four cocktails inspired by the Day of the Dead and the traditions of his hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico. Wow your friends with these cocktail creations, all made with Jose Cuervo Tradicional:
Santa Muerte
Ingredients
- 2 oz. Jose Cuervo Tradicional
- 1/2 oz. prickly pear purée
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
Method
Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake, then strain into your favorite martini glass.
The Mayan
Ingredients
- 2 oz. Jose Cuervo Tradicional infused with dried coconut flakes
- 1/2 oz. agave nectar
- 1/2 oz. corn purée
- 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
- 5 drops habanero-infused tequila
Method
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Shake and strain into your favorite martini glass. Garnish glass with chili powder rim if desired.
Tradition & Immortality
Ingredients
- 2 oz. Jose Cuervo Tradicional
- 1/2 oz. Green Chartreuse
- 1/4 oz. absinthe
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- 1 oz. lime juice
Method
Mix all ingredients and pour into an ice-filled tumbler. Garnish with 3 sage leaves if desired
Dia De Los Muertos Old Fashioned 
Ingredients
- 2 oz. Jose Cuervo Tradicional infused with marigold petals
- 2 bar spoons spiced simple syrup
- 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Method
Mix all ingredients and pour into ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with lemon peel.
