If you’re feeling the effects of cabin fever these days, or just want a healthy dose of fresh air, get up and get moving with Chester County Hospital’s Dash 4 Diabetes. This run/walk race event on Saturday, April 1, benefits a great cause and is something the whole family can enjoy.
Marking its 23rd year, the Dash 4 Diabetes benefits the Diabetes Self-Management Program at Chester County Hospital. This comprehensive instructional program, accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, provides those with diabetes with education and resources for lifelong management of the disease.
Run, Walk or Skip

Serious runners and casual walkers alike are welcome to take part in the Dash 4 Diabetes, with 5K race and 2.5K walk options for the adults. Kids 12 and under are invited to participate in the Arthur Hall Insurance Kids Fun Run alongside Rammy, the friendly West Chester University mascot.
Runners and walkers will convene in front of the Chester County Justice Center, with registration opening at 2:30 p.m. There’s plenty of free, convenient parking right in the Justice Center Parking Garage at 220 W. Market Street. Dash t-shirts, free for all registrants, feature a design by West Chester Henderson High School students.
The 12 and under folks will kick off the races with the Kids Fun Run at 3:30 p.m. along a safe, secured route. At 4 p.m. the 5K runners and 2.5K walkers will take off on a route that carries them by charming historic homes, the vibrant University campus and West Chester’s enchanting Everhart Park. Strollers are welcome on the course, so bring the whole crew along!

Registration for the Dash is $25 before March 31 and $30 on race day. Kids Fun Run participants pay $10 and are welcome to join in the Dash afterward as well. Children 12 and under with diabetes are invited to participate free of charge.
For the swiftest among us there will be awards including 1st through 3rd place overall in men’s and women’s categories as well as the top three male and female dashers in each age group. Additionally, the Kennedy Marie Canzoneri Award will go to the athlete with diabetes who finishes first.
All dashers are invited to join Chester County Hospital for the Dash Awards and an all ages After-Party at Kildare’s following the race, when everyone will be able to enjoy complimentary appetizers and drink specials.
Other Ways to Help
Those not dashing through the streets are invited to help in other ways. Donations are always welcome and have a direct impact on patient care for the 900+ participants that the Diabetes Self-Management Program assists annually.

Anyone interested in donating to this worthy cause can do so via check or online payment. Make an easy one-time contribution toward this year’s $10,000 goal with an online donation, or send a check payable to CCHF Dash to The Chester County Hospital Foundation, 701 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380 along with your name, email, mailing address and phone number.
Volunteers are also welcome at the many Chester County Hospital fundraising events throughout the year. What better way to give back than by supporting the hospital at the heart of keeping your community healthy? Anyone interested in volunteer opportunities can contact Lauren Roscovich through email or phone at [email protected] or (610) 431-5328.
For all of the fleet-footed runners, power walkers and low-key amblers looking to spring into action, the Dash 4 Diabetes provides the perfect opportunity. By participating in this fun and family-friendly race, you’ll contribute directly to the Diabetes Self-Management programming of Chester County Hospital. It’s truly a win-win!
