Head Brewer Ryan Michaels kicks off weekend with an Anti-Reinheitsgebot beer pairing dinner
In honor of Germany’s revered Oktoberfest, the popular festival celebrating Bavarian culture, McKenzie Brew House is hosting its second annual McKenzie-fest at its restaurant locations in Malvern, Pa. and Chadds Ford, Pa. from Thursday, September 30 to Sunday, October 3. During McKenzie-fest, guests will enjoy special festival beers, Oktoberfest music and authentic German fare.
To kick off the McKenzie-fest weekend, brewers Ryan Michaels and Gerard Olson will host an Anti-Reinheitsgebot Oktoberfest Beer Dinner on Thursday, September 30, at 7 pm on McKenzie Brew House Malvern’s outdoor deck and patio. The dinner will feature several courses of German-inspired fare, each complemented by a German-influenced beer. The Anti-Reinheitsgebot dinner is priced at $39 per person, excluding tax and gratuity. The following specialty beers will be featured:
- Pumpkinfest: Brewed with Pennsylvania Dutch pumpkins, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and ginger
- Oktoberfest: A malty, strong amber lager brewed with black pepper
- La Faute: A dark, strong lager brewed with candied sugar
- Oer Faute: La Faute, aged in a French red wine barrel in our house micro flora, providing added acidity, depth, and complexity
- Krüg Bier: A hoppy, orange-colored German Ale made with lots of candied sugar and German Hops
“Reinheitsgebot is a centuries-old purity law established for German beer, mandating that only essential ingredients – malt, hops, yeast, and water – may be used when brewing beer,” said Ryan Michaels, the award-winning head brewer at McKenzie Brew House. “For this beer pairing dinner, we’re overlooking the Reinheitsgebot, and introducing guests to incredible German-inspired beers made with non-traditional ingredients.”
