EATS (Eat Along the Street) Food Festival & Celebrity Chef Throwdown Coming to Manayunk Sept. 21

Join Chabaa Thai chef Moon Krapugthong and Space by Spielman, Ltd., president Judy Spielman as they kick off Manayunk’s Eco Arts Festival (Sept. 23-25) in culinary and philanthropic style with their EATS (Eat Along the Street) Food Festival on Wed., Sept. 21, from 6-9 pm!

As a celebration of street food traditions, this unique event brings together the city and region’s most exciting (and delicious!) food trucks and restaurants in a lively festival setting. Spectators can enjoy freshly made fare and win gift certificates to top restaurants, cultural institutions and more.

Along with globally inspired cuisine, EATS will feature a friendly culinary competition where some of the region’s most exciting chefs will prepare scrumptious dishes with local ingredients reflecting authentic street food cuisine from around the world. For added thrill, a distinct panel of judges and VIP tasters will “throw down” their votes for the best bites of the night. (Judges include Iron Chef Jose Garces, Author/Chef Aliza Green, City Paper’s Food Editor Drew Lazor, Owner of Tashan/Tiffin  Munish Narula, Philadelphia Inquirer’s Rick Nichols, and Town Dish’s own Mary Bigham.)

The evening’s celebrity chefs partaking in the Throwdown will include Tony Clark of The Old Grange; Mary Cullom of Arpeggio; Derek Davis of Derek’s; Nick Farrell of Sovana Bistro; Clark Gilbert of Gemelli; Tom Konidaris of Zesty’s; Rich Landau/Kate Jacoby of Vedge; Brendan McGrew of Bourbon Blue; John O’Brien of Winnies Le Bus; and Larry Thum of The Dining Car.

Don’t miss the vendor sponsors either, including Arpeggio, Chabaa Thai Bistro, Cooper’s Wine Bar, Guapos Taco Truck, Hard Iced Tea, Kildare’s, Meze Kabob House, Nomad Pizza, Philadelphia Distilling, The Dining Car and Yards Brewing Co.

In partnership with Thailand’s Wat Bodd Voraditth orphanage, proceeds raised will go towards improving the lives of impoverished young people, with the ultimate goal of training them for culinary and hospitality careers. In addition to the culinary competition and offerings, the event will also feature a Chinese-style auction featuring restaurant gift certificates, Phillies and Flyers tickets, cooking classes, theater tickets and many other exciting prizes.

General admission is $35 per person, which includes access to outdoor vendors plus 2 drink vouchers. Guests also have the opportunity to secure the all-access indoor/outdoor admission for $75 (includes all vendor access (outdoor & indoor), plus 4 drink vouchers) or the $125 VIP access admission (access to all vendors & Throwdown Arena, unlimited drinks & contestant samples, participation in Peoples’ Choice Vote for Best Dish; only 40 available). To purchase tickets, click HERE.

EATS will take shape at Propper Brothers of 115 Levering Street in Manayunk.
