On Tap: Sierra Nevada’s Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale

On Tap is a regular column featuring our recommendations on the most unique new draft beer offerings from local pubs.

Our Recommendation: Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale, Sierra Nevada Brewing

Where: Drafting Room, 635 N. Pottstown Pike, Exton, PA 19341

On noon, Saturday, July 9th, The Drafting Room is tapping several unique beers for a special West Coast Brewery Promotion. Owner Howard Weintraub and I sat down and tasted one of the special ales that will be on tap for the event.

Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale is made with fresh hops grown and picked in New Zealand.  “Our spring is the fall harvest season in the Southern Hemisphere,” Howard explained, “and the hops for are picked, dried and  shipped to Chico, California right after harvest.”

Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale is a beautiful copper colored ale. Howard described it as a “dry hoppy flavor with a subtle malt sweetness.” The ale comes in at 6.7%. Quite refreshing in the hot summer weather.

Starting Saturday at noon, you can try samplings of this ale in your choice of 5 oz., 10 oz., or full pint servings. The Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale is available in limited quantities. The Drafting Room has only one keg for the season.

Fortunately, the West Coast Brewery Promotion will also feature two other Sierra Nevada drafts as well: Hop Smack Double IPA and Beer Camp Exportation, plus several other unique beers you’ll enjoy sampling.
