The duo, also childhood friends, spent years working to perfect their coffee, which will be available two ways: online from the Rival Bros e-store and at their mobile coffee shop, The Rival Bros Truck. The mobile coffee co., found in a custom-outfitted delivery truck, will premiere at Love Park later this month offering made-to-order coffees and espressos (Monday through Friday, beginning at 7 a.m.).
The Rival Bros Coffee beans can be ordered online and shipped anywhere in the country – available by clicking here. The whole beans are sold in 12 oz. bags and include their four standard blends:
- Whistle & Cuss, their espresso blend has the perfect amount of sharpness, a syrupy body, clean nutty aroma, caramel flavors and a soft berry finish ($12.50)
- Revolver, their drip coffee, a Latin American-based blend with Indonesian and African beans for chocolate and spice notes.
- Featherweight, their lightest roast, ideal for single-cup brewing is bright, crisp, earthy and herbaceous with lingering orange notes ($11.75)
- Palooka, their decaf coffee, a bold balance with a toffee and thyme finish ($13.25)
For local fans in Philadelphia, Adams and Pileggi have been hard at work transforming an old delivery truck and retrofitting it for their exacting brewing and serving standards so they can create a top-of-the-line “coffee shop on wheels.”
The Rival Bros Truck will feature the best coffee and espresso machines available, including built-in pour-over stations, a La Marzocco two-group espresso machine with pre-infusion paddles, a Fetco extractor brewer and Italian-made Mazzer espresso coffee grinders.
When the truck is ready to makes its debut in Love Park, the gents behind Rival will man it themselves, hand-pulling espresso shots and even choosing the music selections that guests will enjoy over their high-end sound system while they wait for their coffee drinks.
In addition to their signature coffees, RBC will occasionally offer single-varietal coffees from around the world, specially roasted to showcase their unusual flavor profiles.
Pileggi worked with Philadelphia-based La Colombe, including three years in San Francisco as their West Coast brand ambassador where he experienced an entirely different coffee culture. Adams and Pileggi grew up together just outside of Philadelphia in Bucks County and first started working together at Center City’s Davio’s and Brasserie Perrier. Both stayed in the hospitality industry, but chose different paths. Adams made a name for himself in some of the city’s most avant garde kitchens, earning Philadelphia magazine’s “Chef of the Year” title in 2007.
