Tackle “Taco to Meet You” Mondays at Victory Brewing Company

This past Monday, I stopped by Victory Brewing Company for lunch to see what’s new for fall and to check out their “Taco To Meet You!” Victory’s Karen Noonan joined me for lunch and conversation.

Here’s the  taco deal: Victory’s tacos are typically $5 apiece, so on Mondays, 3 tacos now can be had for $7.50 with that purchase of a beer. The tacos also come with chips and salsa. Karen told me they started offering “Taco to Meet You” back in April. The deal has been so popular they have made it an ongoing tradition.

The tacos come in four choices: spicy chicken roja, milder chicken verde, pork or vegetarian. There’s a taco choice for everyone and choosing three different tacos is a great way to go.

When the waiter delivered the tacos to our table, I noticed two things – they were large and they were double shelled. A hard shell was nestled into a soft shell, which really is a brilliant idea. “They are double wrapped so it doesn’t crack,” Karen said.

I sampled the two chicken tacos first. The roja was very spicy, and my DarkDevil paired very well with it. The chicken verde was milder but just as enjoyable. Each taco has layered in lettuce, tomato and cheese. The chips were crisp and the salsa fresh.

As we ate, Karen divulged that Victory is working on a new cell phone app that will include a Victory beer locator and list upcoming events at the pub. They hope to release the app for both the iPhone and Droid very soon. Who won’t want a “V” app on their iPhone?

After enjoying the excellent chicken tacos, I decided to sample the vegetarian taco. Stuffed with black beans and sauteed onions and peppers, this taco was packed. Not sure why, but I saved the pork taco for last, and it may have been the best of the choices. The double wrapping of the tacos also allowed me to make it through lunch without blotting my white dress shirt.

Karen told me that Victory’s catering service has been very busy this fall. She said Victory has catered several weddings, a few have even used the brewpub on wheels. She also told me about how exciting it was for Victory to actually host a wedding at the restaurant. Neil Harner, the Founder of Philly Beer Scene Magazine, recently tied the knot and held their reception at Victory.

I was also informed about the in-house battle going on with Victory’s chefs. The Victory Cook’s Showdown has been taking place through the fall. One “back of the house” chef battles a “front of house” sous chef for the title of Victorious Chef Team. She said the competition has become popular. Several Victory employees often turn out to cheer their peers on in this lively battle. The next battle is set for Tuesday, November 8th at 6pm and the finale is Thursday, December 15th at 6pm.

Victory Brewing’s “Taco to Meet You” is held every Monday for both lunch and dinner. Check out the half-price tacos with a pint of your favorite Victory beer to transform your Monday into a Fiesta!
