Save Tuesday, July 24th, from 6–10 p.m., to participate in a one-night-only pop-up collaboration between Mt. Airy’s Geechee Girl Rice Cafe and Chestnut Hill’s Roller’s Express-o.
The local restaurant team-up will unfold at Roller’s Express-o this week, found at 8341 Germantown Avenue. The notable, local hot spots will highlight GG’s fabulously-flavorful Low Country cooking aside RE’s finely-curated list of wines and craft beers.
GG’s owner/chef Valerie Erwin’s menu (full lineup below) is set to include small plates of “irresistibles” such as BBQ shrimp, biscuit slider trio and Southern fried chicken wings with spicy Thai dipping sauce. A signature Geechee Girl Rum cocktail will also be featured, as concocted with Val’s own hous-emade ginger beer. Roller’s also reveals that they will be featuring their Geechee Girl-inspired 6 packs of beer to-go for your next visit to Val’s cafe.
Menu is as follows:
Salads and Starters:
- Roasted Marinated Red & Golden Beets – garnished with goat cheese
- Asian Slaw with cilantro and mint
- Sautéed Greens with caramelized onions, sautéed peppers and garlic
- Hummus Plate: blackeye-pea peanut butter hummus, pickled okra & housemade crackers
Small Plates:
- New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp: shrimp baked in a spicy butter w/ toasted baguette
- South X Southeast Wings: southern fried wings tossed in a sweet and spicy Thai sauce.
- Asian slaw
- Trio of Biscuits Sliders—buttermilk biscuits with pulled pork, chicken sausage with red eye gravy and pimento cheese with housemade pickle
- Mac & Cheese
Larger Plates:
- Pulled Pork Sandwich with creamy coleslaw
- Soft Shell Crab Poor Boy with sliced tomato, shredded lettuce and herb sour cream sauce; creamy coleslaw
- Braised Short Ribs ”oxtail style” with whipped sweet potatoes
Desserts:
- Peach Shortcake Vitrine: our own shortcake; 3 Springs Farm peaches; whipped cream
- Brownie Sundae: rich brownie; ice cream; caramel sauce; candied pecans
- Silver Dollar Pancakes: orange sour cream pancakes; bananas; bourbon sauce; whipped cream
