It’s Official: Yori’s Church Street Bakery Will Open Saturday, June 23

BREAKING NEWS!

I received a call Thursday morning from David Yori, the owner of the much anticipated new bakery on Church Street. After several construction delays, David is happy to announce he will open for business on Saturday, June 23rd at 7 a.m.

We first interviewed David back in March about the plans for his bakery.

At the time, David explained he will be creating a full-line of baked goods including danishes, donuts, cinnamon buns, pies, French pastries, assorted cookies and cookies by the pound, cream puffs, and a variety of cakes including red velvet cakes, carrot cakes, graduation cakes and wedding cakes. The bakery will have tables and also stools and a tabletop facing the window so diners can look out onto the street. They plan on selling coffee, and eventually will add refrigerated cases for drinks and milk.

“Baking is a dying art,” David told me. “It’s hard work and a lot of kids aren’t going into this type of work. All our baking will be done on the premises. It’s going to be fresh made every day.”

David first learned baking as a teenager while working at Weinrich’s Bakery in Newtown Square. He worked there while attending West Chester University. Upon graduating in 2009, he continued on at Weinrich’s part-time, as well as baking for two other Delaware County establishments, Jacquette’s Bakery and Original Bagel, both in Broomall. After working at these three shops, his boss at Jacquette’s helped David draft a business plan to open his own bakery. When David came upon the site on Church Street, he knew this was the space for him.

Yori’s Church Street Bakery is located at 15 North Church Street, West Chester, which is the block between Gay Street and Market Street.
