Black Walnut Winery to Host Must-Attend Wine & Chocolate Education

Have you ever wondered how grapes get made into wine?  Or how wine grapes are different from the grapes you buy at the grocery store?  Or what fermentation means?  Or where the flavors and aromas in wine come from?

Have you ever wondered about the origins of chocolate?  Why one dark chocolate presents so differently on your palate than another?  Which wine pairs best with your favorite chocolate?  Or why a chocolate square has a snap when you break it, a shine when you see it, yet it still melts so delightfully in your mouth?

Join Lance Castle, winemaker and co-owner of Black Walnut Winery, located in Sadsburyville, PA and Gail Warner, chocolatier and owner of Bridge Street Chocolates, located in Phoenixville, PA for an afternoon of wine and chocolate education on Sunday, February 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Lance will take you through the journey of winemaking.  He will provide a brief introduction to viticulture, including a description of modern agricultural methods employed to produce a wine-worthy crop.  Learn about vinification, or “the journey from juice to market,” where Lance will describe the process of making the most common types of wine.  Lance will also talk about wine tasting, with a focus on how to get the most out of your visit to a winery’s tasting room, and wine pairing, where he will explore how to pair wines with meals, desserts, cheeses and chocolates.

Gail will take you through the journey of making chocolate.  Learn where cacao is grown, how one region of beans brings a distinct flavor profile compared to another, how cacao beans are harvested and prepared, and which profiles you prefer best. Then you will test your knowledge and sensory of chocolate by tasting various samples, noting differences in flavors and textures.

The class will also include a pairing of Bridge Street chocolates with Black Walnut wines that accentuate both the chocolate and the wine. The festive event will conclude with Q&A and a raffle with fabulous wine and chocolate prizes.

Our wine education classes are designed to tutor your taste buds in a fashion that’s fun, interactive, and unpretentious. Designed to attract both novices and aficionados, our wine and chocolate education classes offer a casual, educational, and most important, fun tasting experience for all.
