Small Town, Big Film: West Chester Film Festival Returns April 26 – 28

The West Chester Film Festival is returning this weekend, April 26–28!

This year’s festival features scores of entertaining, enlightening and educational independent films. All of the films are shorts—less than 30 minutes long. A wide range of genres will be shown, including documentaries, animated shorts, dramas, crowd-sourced films, comedy and even an experimental film or two. The films will be shown at the West Chester Armory and the Knights of Columbus; tickets are available at the door or online. See the full schedule here!

The Festival opens Friday, April 26, at 5 p.m. with an Opening Party at Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant. All are invited to meet the filmmakers, directors, actors and sponsors and enjoy a great evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and camaraderie. Tickets for the party, which include free admission to the first block of films, are $25 and are available here or at the door.

The Festival will also be offering three free workshops this year. The first, presented by Joe Moser, explores the role of the music composer in film; participants are invited to collaborate in putting music to a short film. In the second workshop, filmmakers James Thompson and Pat Taggart will reveal the secrets to successful filmmaking. The third workshop explores women’s sexuality in and on film with Darragh Dandurand Friedman. Details on all the workshops are available here.

The festival will wrap up with a Closing Night Awards Party at The Note at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, featuring an award ceremony with a $500 prize for the best female filmmaker and the West Chester Film Festival Award for the best Animation, Art/Experimental, Drama, Documentary, Comedy, Student and PA Filmmaker. Film Festival participants once again will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite films in the ever-popular H. Paul Fitzpatrick’s People’s Choice award. Get tickets for the event here.
