West Chester Story Slam Returns Feb. 12 with Theme “Warning Signs”

Warning Signs is the theme of the next West Chester Story Slam, which unfolds at Side Bar & Restaurant on Tuesday, February 12th. Whether you take the stage to tell your story, or simply hang out and listen, the Story Slam is a unique and captivating event to enjoy with friends. Check it out and see why West Chester Story Slam was voted “Best Entertaining Night Out” last year by Main Line Today. Reserved seats can be ordered here.

February’s theme, Warning Signs, means stories about taking risks. Since this Story Slam is two days before Valentine’s Day, these could be stories about taking risks with dating, with marriage, with love. Of course, every day life is surrounded with Warning Signs – at work, at home, at the supermarket. Perhaps Warning Signs were posted where a person was due to travel, and those warning signs were either heeded or ignored with amazing consequences.

You may be asking – what exactly is a Story Slam?

It’s an event where anyone can take the stage and tell a story based on the night’s theme. Some stories are hilarious, others are sad. People reveal themselves through their stories. Three judges determine the night’s winner, who advances to November’s Grand Slam. The judging is based on two criteria – content and presentation. Each story should be no longer than five minutes long and based on the night’s theme. No props, no music and no notes are allowed. Check out West Chester Story Slam for more details and to watch videos from last month’s story slam. If you can’t attend, you can always subscribe to the West Chester Story Slam podcast on iTunes.

Last month’s event was standing room only, so order your reserved seats early. Remember – you do not have to tell a story, though here’s a word of warning: Folks who come to watch often end up jumping on stage and telling a story themselves. Last month’s winner Luanne Sims did just that. Here’s her story on the theme Social Media.
