Downingtown’s event schedule seems to be growing by the day. With plenty of options for things to do and places to go for the whole family, there’s no way your summer could be described as “dull” or “boring.” Events like the Mac & Cheese Cook-Off, the Saint Joseph’s Community Festival and Black Walnut Winery’s Blues Fest may be over, but you can bet the upcoming events during the month of August will surely meet the standard for fun times had in this beloved town.
Swingin’ Summer Saturday (August 9)
Gather your friends or bring the whole family to the Armour Alley Pocket Plaza for a swingin’ good time on August 9 from 5–10 p.m. Plenty of local food vendors will be on hand as well as some rockin’ good tunes from Downingtown’s School of Rock. Swingin’ Summer Saturday is brought to you by Downingtown Main Street Alliance.
Mobile Pet Food Pantry (August 16)
If you can get yourself to Borough Hall between the hours of noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, please bring donations of the pet variety. The Animal House Project is an organization that serves as a last resort for pet owners in dire times. Simply from receiving donations, the Animal House Project was able to give over 24,500 pounds of dry pet food and over 6,400 cans of pet food to families in need between the months of January and June in 2014! Consider heading to Borough Hall to make a difference in an animal’s life.
The Blob at Kerr Park (August 16)
Also coming to you courtesy of the Downingtown Main Street Association is a special screening of the classic film The Blob. Did you know this movie depicts an alien form of life terrorizing the Downingtown community? Viewing will take place at Kerr Park at 8 p.m. Bring a blanket or a fold-up chair, some snacks and the family and enjoy watching a movie in the park.
Alert Fire Co. Annual Chicken Bar-B-Que (August 23)
After a sell-out event last year, the Alert Fire Co. Number 1 is prepared to host its annual Chicken BBQ Fundraiser on Saturday, August 23, from 4–7 p.m. Come help this 100% volunteer-based fire company raise some much-needed funds to continue its efforts to help the community.
