A community that volunteers together stays together. NW Philly Repair Cafe is encouraging residents of Chestnut Hill to come to Center on the Hill on September 20 with their broken kitchen and other appliances in hand. From 1:30–5 p.m., local community residents will be volunteering their time and skills to help repair your blender that’s been sitting in a cupboard begging to be fixed.
Here’s how it will work: Show up with your non-working small appliance. If there are any parts necessary for the appliance to be fixed, please bring the required parts. Community volunteers will sit down with you one-on-one and teach you how to disassemble your appliance, assess what the problem is and attempt to fix it. Best case scenario: You go home with a working appliance. Worst case: Your appliance is unable to be fixed. However, the volunteers may be able to recommend a local repair shop. You still learned about how your appliance works and it won’t end up in the trash. All appliances that are unable to be fixed will be recycled on the spot.
The Repair Café is funded in part by the Chestnut Hill Community Fund and co-sponsored by the Center on the Hill and Time4Time Community Exchange. For a full list of repairs they’ll be providing services for and to register the broken items you’ll be bringing, be sure to check out the website in advance.
