This Christmas, Whole Foods Market is helping you decorate your home and give back to the planet at the same time. In the wake of recent wildfires that have devastated U.S. national forests, Whole Foods is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation, the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, for this eco-friendly initiative: when you buy a tree from Whole Foods, a new tree will be planted.
Local eight-foot Christmas trees at Whole Foods Market Devon are just $49.99, and the location will be participating in the nationwide Whole Foods/Arbor Day Foundation partnership, guaranteeing that one tree will be planted for each one sold. Feel extra-good about dressing your home in holiday style this year!
Whole Foods is also offering these handy tips for how to care for your tree and other greenery once you bring it home:
-
Give your cut tree a fresh cut, removing at least ¼” of its trunk, and put it in a large bucket outdoors to get its first big drink. The tree can drink upward of a gallon of water on this first day.
-
Choose a stand that fits your tree. Whittling down the outer bark will reduce the tree’s ability to drink water, so choose a stand large enough for the trunk to pass through the upper ring.
-
Place the tree away from heat sources such as heaters, fireplaces, heat vents and direct sunlight.
-
There is no need to add anything to the water. Fresh water is the key to keeping the tree hydrated and retaining its needles.
-
Check and add water daily.
-
Choosing a potted tree? Potted miniature trees should be watered when the soil feels dry to the touch. If the pot is heavy, it does not need water.
-
Consider displaying your wreath outside your storm door. The area between the two doors can warm up like a greenhouse and sunburn your wreath.
-
Mist your indoor trees and greenery daily to help keep them from drying out too fast. It will boost your home’s humidity levels (and that’s good for people too!).
-
Watch for community announcements for tree pick up and recycling information for your area.
