We bet you didn’t know that real maple syrup is being produced right in the heart of Germantown at Wyck, the historic house, garden and farm.
According to Virginia A. Smith from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Wyck began collecting the syrup from their large array of 70 foot maple trees last year when Christina Moresi, Wyck’s educator, came on board. Last year they produced approximately a dozen four ounce jars of the liquid gold, which can sell for about $43 a gallon. This year, with the winter weather we are experiencing in the Philadelphia area, the sugaring is slow going. But, they still hope to produce some authentic maple syrup.
