McCrossen’s Tavern is welcoming home family member turned Kiwi winemaker Daniel Brennan of Decibel Wines for the Official US Decibel Wines Premier Party on Thursday, August 7, at 7 p.m. Brennan will return to his family’s restaurant to debut three of his wines for the first time in the United States.
The Release Party will have a selection of five different featured Decibel Wines, available by the glass and bottle for one night only. Brennan will be on site to pour the wines and to answer questions on topics ranging from the process of wine making to New Zealand culture. A food menu with small plate suggestions has also been created by Chef Eric Mushrush to be paired with each of the featured wines. The food and wine pairings are optional; food options are a la carte. McCrossen’s regular dinner menu will also be available.
Suggested Food and Wine Pairing Menu
Duck Breast with cherry jus, herbed salad
Paired with both Decibel Pinot Noir vintages, 2011 & 2013
Smoked Tomato Tartare with fresh basil, olive oil cracker
Paired with Decibel’s 2011 Malbec
Scallops with roasted tomatillo sauce, toasted pepita seeds
Paired with Decibel’s 2013 Sauvignon Blanc
Shrimp Ceviche with avo mousse, radish assortment
Paired with Decibel’s 2014 Amplified
The restaurant already sells Decibel Wines’ Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec. The three new wines include 2011 and 2013 Pinot Noir vintages and a white wine blend called Amplified. McCrossen’s Tavern will soon carry all Decibel Wines varietals, along with other New Zealand brands, making them a top destination for New Zealand Wine in Philadelphia.
“Carrying New Zealand wine brings a unique element to McCrossen’s that you don’t typically see in most other restaurants here in the city, where you find the usual Spanish or Italian wines. Since New Zealand varietals are sold less in restaurants, people may not know that the New Zealand wine scene is really hot right now,” says head bartender James Brennan.
McCrossen’s Tavern is located at 29 N. 20th St. in Philadelphia; phone: (215) 854-0923.
