Opening Today in Center City: Mission Taqueria

Mission Taqueria

Make room for a new Mexican restaurant and bar opening up today in Center City: Mission Taqueria.

The 4,500-square-foot eatery in a second floor setting will serve Mexican dishes with creative twists, including chorizo rojo tacos, grilled wild shrimp tacos, yellow fin ceviche, pineapple habanero-glazed chicken wings and larger plates such as lamb barbacoa.

Drink offerings will include creative cocktails like the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, draft margaritas, local craft beer and wine.

This is the second restaurant for owner Sam Mink, who also owns Oyster House. For Mission Taqueria, Mink drew inspiration from his trips to Mexico City as well as San Francisco’s Mission District, where he lived for nine years. Mission District is the city’s oldest neighborhood, best known for its rich history of Mexican and Latin American cuisine. Mink’s partner in Mission Taqueria is Brett Naylor, who is the executive chef at Oyster House.

“There is an undeniable, palpable energy you feel when you visit somewhere like Mexico City or Mission District,” says Mink. “It’s anywhere you turn and in everything you taste. We’re hoping to replicate that and create a space and menu that really transports you, and might even allow you to forget, even if it’s for a second, that you’re in Center City, Philadelphia.”
