BeerNERDs and Root Down Brewing Co. Collaborate to Raise Funds for Main Line Deputy Dog (Nov. 12)

BeerNERDs, the group of beer aficionados (N.E.R.D. stands for Network of Educated Refined Drinkers), and Root Down Brewing Company have joined forces to create the latest Root Down brew, Melt Down. The collaborative twosome will be holding a combination fundraiser and release party at the brewery on Sunday, November 12, to benefit Main Line Deputy Dog, a local organization that helps with the training of service dogs for those in need.

The doors will open at 11 a.m., with the can release beginning at 1 p.m. and the event ending at 4 p.m. The day will feature the release of Melt Down, and attendees can purchase four-packs of this exciting new brew. In addition, there will be food offerings, specialty event glassware, a DJ, raffles and more. All profits will directly benefit Main Line Deputy Dog.

BeerNERDs is a group of 5,000 people (online), with many members located in Southeastern Pennsylvania as well as New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware and other states. The group is known for its local fundraising efforts—it raised $4,000 last year alone, which was donated to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, West Chester Food Cupboard, Safe Harbor and Main Line Deputy Dog. Tying this year’s fundraiser to a beer release with a local brewery just made sense.

BeerNERDs and Root Down

“Main Line Deputy Dog really stood out to me for a few reasons,” says Todd Farrell of BeerNERDs. “They seemed to have the least help with funding in the community … they were the perfect trifecta of a cause in that they help people with disabilities, they help veterans and everyone loves dogs. They are a great organization and were very thankful [for the charitable contributions].”

Melt Down is an oatmeal stout with molasses and chocolate. The term “meltdown” is the result of a frequent joke among the BeerNERDs—when someone freaks out about a beer-related topic, they call it “having a meltdown.” Farrell and the owner of Root Down Brewing Company, Mike Hamara, were discussing this behavior at one point, stating that people should relax and remember that it’s just beer. Ultimately, the discussion turned into crafting a beer for charity.

Be one of the first individuals to try Melt Down, and attend this fabulous fundraising party to benefit Main Line Deputy Dog and the extraordinary work it does for the community!
