Jose Cuervo Launches Limited Edition Bottle Series in Honor of 222nd Birthday

In celebration of the colorful and storied history of Jose Cuervo, the brand is celebrating its 222nd birthday with the launch of a limited edition bottle series. Designed by renowned muralist and artist Ricardo Cavolo, the bottles featuring intricate characters that represent key characters and moments for the world’s largest-selling tequila brand. Ricardo’s designs visually narrate the history of Jose Cuervo through four vivid illustrations across the Jose Cuervo Especial Gold and Silver bottles:

 The Heart of an Industry

In 1795, the King of Spain granted Jose Antonio de Cuervo the first royal concession to produce tequila commercially. This singular event marks the birth of tequila as we know it today, making Jose Cuervo not only the founder but the heart of an entire industry.

The Devil’s Water

When three barrels of Jose Cuervo tequila first crossed the border to the United States in 1873, the few Americans who dared to drink the fiery liquor claimed a spot among the last rogues of the West. The simple act of drinking Agua Del Diablo (the Devil’s water) imbued adventure at a time when Americans saw tequila as a mysterious, dangerous spirit.

 A Special Lady

In Mexico’s tumultuous years following its revolution, Jose Cuervo broke social convention by anointing a woman, Ana Gonzalez-Rubio y de la Torre, as the head of the entire company to provide leadership and guidance in times of turmoil.

A Musical Inspiration

From the Rolling Stones’ legendary 1972 Tequila Sunrise Tour to countless tequila-inspired anthems, Jose Cuervo continues to lead and create timeless moments throughout musical history.

“Jose Cuervo shares the same spirit of intensity that is found in my artwork, so it is a perfect union,” said Ricardo Cavolo. “Working on this nontraditional canvas has given me the ability to take my art to people by way of a bottle that people can enjoy long after the tequila has been finished.”
