Here’s a reason to cheer: Souderton’s One Village Coffee (OVC) is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Started in 2007 by Steve Hackman, the company is experiencing exponential growth under the new leadership of Steve’s daughter-in-law, Andrea Hackman. Andrea, a busy mother of two, is carrying on with many of the elements Steve developed “back in the day,” and along with her team, she’ s updating and creating some new coffee platforms and best practices to meet the ever-changing market needs in the coffee world.
Located in a bucolic and peaceful section of Souderton, One Village’s renovated office space and roastery is a two-story facility filled with wonderful aromas, busy team members and lots of creative energy.
One Village was one of the first 50 members of the Devon-based B Corp. Having a B Corp-approved business is important, as it underscores the commitment of One Village to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental practices, accountability and transparency. It totally defines the social commitment of One Village and its core values.
OVC’s organic and fair trade coffees have been a staple in many homes locally and is now available in 22 states nationwide. It’s come a long way since the days of Steve selling his coffee at local farmers markets and small coffee shops; now, they’ve gone global in a sense. Its new logo is warm and embracing, and for consumers, it creates a welcoming and warm message.
Andrea, who has an MBA from Eastern University, hopes to continue Steve’s mission. Her decision to become the new leader at OVC came from a family meeting, where everyone agreed that keeping the business in the family was “the way to go.” Everyone’s eyes turned to Andrea, and the rest is history. Andrea admits that she couldn’t carry out her new role without the support of her husband, Scott Hackman. Sources say that Scott makes great breakfasts for the family every day, and everyone eats together before their busy day begins.
Andrea’s primary goal is to reenergize the brand and maintain the core values. And that’s an easy thing to do, because Steve Hackman created a good foundation for this coffee roastery. Andrea’s hands-on approach is enhanced with the grace in which she leads and creates harmony among all team members, and her passion for coffee and worldwide empowerment is uncontainable.
In reenergizing the brand, Andrea says to look for even newer and hip coffee packaging. The new coffee packaging, which will launch in early July, will feature artful photos of coffee in different settings with photographic suggestions of how your coffee can be served. Best to say that Andrea and her crew are creating a big footprint in the coffee world.
One Village Coffee is available for purchase at Whole Foods Market, Mom’s Organic Market and other coffee shops and small merchants throughout the Delaware Valley.
