Several new eateries have opened in Manayunk over the past few months, including The Spicy Belly, Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory and SOMO. Dining on Main Street recently got even better with the opening of another new establishment—Sona Pub & Kitchen.
Sona occupies the former Kildare’s space at 4417 Main Street and is described jokingly on its website as “Not your father’s Irish bar.” The modern gastropub features 32 taps with rotating craft beers, a specialty craft cocktail menu and elevated pub fare. The menu includes appetizers like Scotch egg, poutine and pierogies; artisan pizzas; soups; sandwiches; and salads. Main courses range in price from $16–$24 and include short rib mac & cheese, Irish chicken curry, salmon, rib eye steak and fish & chips. Brunch is served on the weekends from 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
The pub features two floors with bar space, table service, live music, dancing and more. It’s owned by Damien Given, who grew up near Belfast and worked for Dave Magrogan at Kildare’s, and Chris Flanagan, who is in the construction business.
Sona is open Monday to Wednesday, 4 p.m.–2 a.m.; Thursday and Friday, 11:30 a.m.–2 a.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.–2:30 a.m.
