Nourish PA: Easy Grape Jam

Making homemade jam is easy as 1-2-3! Literally — all it requires is simmering some grapes, adding in sugar and lemon juice and cooling the mix down. Then, you’ve got healthy, delicious jam to spread on toast, to stir into oatmeal, or to serve atop yogurt. This is also a great way to use grapes that are a bit bruised, shriveled or otherwise past their prime.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds seedless red grapes
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • Sliced whole wheat bread, toasted, for serving

Method

  1. In a large, heavy-bottom pot, add grapes. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until grapes are tender and fall apart, about 15-20 minutes. Stir in sugar and lemon juice and cook, stirring occasionally, until thick and glossy, about 25-30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
  2. Carefully spoon jam into canning jars. Screw lids tightly onto jars. Keep refrigerated for up to 3 to 4 weeks. Spread jam onto toasted bread and serve.
