PA Preferred In the Kitchen: Cabernet Franc and Chambourcin

Caleb Wright of Armstrong Valley Winery walks us through a tasting of two easy-drinking, medium-bodied Pennsylvania red wines, which pair beautifully with grilled meats. Chambourcin, a hardy hybrid that thrives on the East Coast, offers young berry flavors and a bold color, while Cabernet Franc has a distinctive peppery nose, refreshing red fruit flavor and a more complex tannic structure. Both offer a delightful, refreshing contrast to the smoky earthiness of grilled burgers, pork and poultry.

Armstrong Valley Vineyard & Winery is an estate-grown, boutique winery and 100-acre historic farm in Dauphin County producing award-winning, small-batch wines that reflect and sustainably protect the special terroir. 212 Rutter Rd., Halifax; (717) 896-7700.
