Meals on Wheels’ Sip & Savor Returns (Sept. 9)

Meals On Wheels Delaware’s annual end of summer party, Sip & Savor, returns for another year of delicious fun on Saturday, September 9, from 6–9 p.m. at the Wild Quail Golf & Country Club, located in Camden Wyoming, Delaware.

In keeping with the summer party theme, the event has a casual atmosphere. There will be great food provided by Kent County restaurants, a beer garden, a wine wall, a photo booth, a DJ from Authentic Entertainment and a live and silent auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit homebound seniors and provide essential funding for the Meals On Wheels programs provided by the Modern Maturity Center, CHEER, City Fare, Meals On Wheels Lewes Rehoboth and Newark Senior Center.

Deb Jewell, director of marketing for Dover Federal Credit Union, a presenting sponsor of the event, said, “Dover Federal Credit Union is committed to supporting the needs within the communities we serve and fulfilling our philosophy of people helping people. It’s an honor to partner with Meals On Wheels DE, which helps ensure meals reach both our members as well as their loved ones.”

Community members Candice C. Fifer, LCSW, and Meghan Clapp Garrison, sales manager of Dover Rent-All Tents and Events, are co-chairs this year. Candice states, “My involvement with the Sip & Savor committee has opened my eyes to the growing need of programs like Meals On Wheels. Understanding that the Meals On Wheels Volunteers are sometimes the only face these seniors could see in a day gives me a greater understanding that this program is about more than just a meal.”

Meghan says, “I have volunteered on the various fundraising event committees for Meals On Wheels Delaware for a number of years, and my involvement has brought awareness of the ongoing need for this service in our community. The program helps our local senior citizens to not only receive a healthy meal, but also have a happier and better quality of life. The annual fundraising events Meals On Wheels Delaware hosts throughout the year, such as Sip & Savor, help to not only raise community awareness but also raise the funds needed to make all of this possible. It is very gratifying to know that my participation and sponsorship is making a difference.”

Participating restaurants include Bonz Restaurant & Lounge, Fordham & Dominion Brewing Company, Hungry Spork, Maple Dale Country Club, Texas Roadhouse, Wild Quail Golf & Country Club, Roma Italian Ristorante/Sul Tempo Cocktail Lounge, The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille, Abbott’s Grill and La Baguette Bakery and Catering. For an up-to-date listing of restaurants and supporters, check out the event details online or on the Sip & Savor event Facebook page.

Entry to Sip & Savor is $85 per person until September 1, and $100 afterwards. Meals on Wheels Delaware is once again offering a special group rate ticket for groups of six or more for $70 per person. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Meals on Wheels Delaware online.
